Albania

Albania is situated in South Eastern Europe, in West of Balkan Peninsula, between latitudes 39 16’, and mostly between longitudes 42 39’. Albania has a total area of 28,748 square kilometers.
The Republic of Albania’s border line length is 1094 km; where 657 is land line, 316 km is coastline, 48 km river line and 73 km is lake line.

The Republic of Albania is bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, the FYROM  to the east and Greece to the south and southeast.

Albania has a coast to the Adriatic and Ionian Sea to the west.

The average height is 708 m above sea level, which is twice bigger than the average height of Europe.

Albania is a mountainous and rugged country, except the fertile area of the Adriatic coast.
Korab (2,763 m) is the highest mountain of the country.
The main rivers are: Drin, Mat, Shkumbin, Vjosa and Seman.
Albania belongs to the sub-tropical area with the humidity of the northern hemisphere and to the area of Mediterranean climate.
The coastal lowlands have typically Mediterranean weather, with hot and dry summer and mild and wet winter.
The inner area, especially in the south, is characterized by harsh winter and mild summer.

More than 1/3 of Albania is covered by forests, 1/3 is pasture and only 1/5 is cultivated. Albania has an ideal geographic position, a very favorable climate, a long coastline, clean beaches, and high mountains and also lakes.
Some of the most important underground minerals found in Albania are: chrome, ferro-nickel, cooper, coal, oil, and gas.
